Chelsea | SW3

Modern open-plan kitchen and dining area with natural light, a wooden dining table with chairs, and a staircase with glass railing.

The property is a 5-storey, mid-terrace property within the Chelsea Conservation Area. The house had undergone piecemeal remodelling and refurbishment over the years, leading to a mixture of different floor levels and small, divided spaces. The focus of the brief was to remove odd steps between floor areas and rationalise the space, creating a better connection and flow between rooms, more light and better head-height. Our final design involved completely demolishing and rebuilding the rear closet wing with an additional storey, the deepening of the basement and opening up the living space on the ground floor. We remodelled and refurbished all floors.

The house now contains a games room with access to garden, bedroom suite, laundry, storage room and plant room on the lower ground floor. The ground floor is now an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space on one level with a feature staircase rising to the first floor. The first floor contains a study and through drawing room/library and on the upper floors a master suite and a further three bedrooms and bathrooms. In addition, a new staircase was installed throughout the building and the house was refurbished throughout.
