Full-Scope Rebuild and Extension of Clapham Common Period Property

This project involved the complete reconfiguration and reconstruction of a prominent period property overlooking Clapham Common, with only the original front façade retained and meticulously restored. The transformation increased the property’s size by over 200m², resulting in a spacious, modern family home that blends traditional elegance with industrial and contemporary design elements.

A full new basement was constructed beneath the house and rear patio, incorporating front and rear light wells to ensure excellent natural light and usability. This lower-ground space accommodates additional family and utility areas, expanding the functionality of the home.

At ground floor level, a substantial rear extension was added to form an expansive open-plan kitchen, dining, and living space. Crittall-style doors provide a seamless connection between the interior and the landscaped garden, enhancing the indoor-outdoor living experience.

The first floor was extended to create a generous master suite, featuring a striking frameless glass bay window in the ensuite bathroom. The second floor was enlarged to include additional spacious bedrooms and a dedicated home office, making the house adaptable to growing family needs and flexible working.

Internally, the house was designed to combine family-friendly living areas with formal sitting rooms, balancing style and function. The interior design brief called for the retention and restoration of original period features, while introducing modern materials, luxurious finishes, and subtle industrial accents—resulting in a timeless yet forward-looking home.
