Wandsworth Common | SW18
This project near Wandsworth Common included the full refurbishment and reconfiguration of an existing 3-storey semi-detached Victorian house. The existing house had been previously extended to the side, but access to all rooms from the hallway was limited, and the space was narrow and dark.
We aimed to create a more flexible ground floor layout with a large open plan kitchen/dining and living area to the rear with direct access to the garden, whilst creating a new circulation space on the ground floor with better connections and flow between the existing drawing room, study, boot rooms and rear kitchen extension. The new full-width kitchen/living extension has a separate playroom which can be closed-off and direct access to the front garden through the pantry/boot room. The rear extension is south-facing - allowing for good levels of natural light/sunlight throughout the day.
By redesigning the staircase, the hallway became more open and light-filled with a view up through the 3 floors of the house. The existing first and second floor layouts were reconfigured, including a replacement first floor extension, in order to create a new master suite, ensuite bathrooms and larger bedrooms.
The rear ground and first floor extensions were designed with yellow stock brick with red brick detailing around openings in order to create a new addition that was sympathetic in style to the original property.
