Victorian House Extension & Modern Rear Addition in London Conservation Area
This project involved the transformation of a detached Victorian property located in a London conservation area. Originally a single-fronted house, the home was significantly expanded and modernised to create a double-fronted, 3-storey family residence, while maintaining the character and architectural integrity of the original building.
A three-storey side extension was added, carefully mirroring the original house to achieve greater symmetry and presence from the street. This new addition provided valuable internal space, including a guest bedroom and study, a downstairs cloakroom and an ensuite bathroom to the top-floor bedroom
The extension seamlessly integrates with the existing architecture, enhancing both the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the home.
A single-storey rear extension was designed in a minimalist, white-rendered style, providing a dramatic contrast to the Victorian architecture. The new space features wraparound glazing and large sliding doors for maximum natural light in a generous open-plan kitchen, dining and living area with a strong visual and physical connection to the mature rear garden
Three internal steps link the new extension to the formal drawing rooms on one side, and a newly created utility room on the other—ensuring a natural flow throughout the ground floor.
The project also included a complete internal reconfiguration and refurbishment, with updates such as new lighting and electrical systems throughout, a whole-home Sonos integration across the ground floor and bespoke layout modifications to improve circulation and everyday living
