Modern dining room with a view of a lush outdoor garden. The garden has stepped to the raised patio, large potted plants, and green living wall to the rear

The aim of this project was to open up and lower the existing basement, whilst increasing levels of natural daylight within. The resulting floor-to-ceiling height of 2.75metres and the frameless glass roof, roof light and 3.2metre high sliding doors of the new replacement side and rear extension, flood the kitchen and dining area with daylight - creating a very open and bright space. Care was taken to create flush walls/skirting and architectural lines throughout.  A spiral wine cellar is a feature of the dining area and extends a further 2.5metres below finished floor level.

The large sliding doors create a strong relationship with the garden, which is considered an extension of the living space and make a focal point of the wonderful, rear living wall. The dark render of the garden walls highlights the greenery and draws the eye out to the garden from within.

Italian, smoked-glass sliding doors were installed internally, to separate the kitchen from the front TV snug area - which was painted in a dark brown colour in order to create a cosy space, in contrast to the bright, open kitchen/dining area beyond. The ground and first floors were refurbished with new bathrooms and the house was fully redecorated.
