Wimbledon | SW20

A large, white, three-story house with brick accents and multiple chimneys, surrounded by a lush lawn and vibrant flower beds, with trees and a partly cloudy sky in the background.

This project involves the remodelling of the whole building, extending the existing cellar from 41m² to 280m², incorporating a swimming pool, cinema room, study, bedrooms and staff accommodation. In addition to this, we have designed a new, contemporary open-plan, single-storey kitchen extension on the ground floor.

The building is Grade 2 Listed, so consideration of the overall aesthetic is crucial. The building has been altered a number of times over the past century and so to rationalise the layout once more, we are proposing to move the staircase back to its’ original position and reconfigure a number of rooms as a result. The repositioning of the staircase is critical to make the whole building flow again and act as a central access point to all rooms - thus tying the building together.

We have designed a large light well with glazing on three sides in order to bring natural light to the lower ground floor and a water feature has been designed into this space to provide a focal point. Access stairs are designed for the new basement, allowing separate access to the staff quarters. A further external staircase is added for access to the garden.
