Clapham Common Westside | SW4
This project involved the complete reconfiguration and rebuilding of a prominent house overlooking Clapham Common, with the front façade the only part of the existing house that remained and was restored. The area of the house was increased by 200m2 through the construction of a new basement below the footprint of the house and the rear patio – with new light wells to the front and back. The ground floor was also extended to create a large, open-plan kitchen/dining/living area to the rear of the building with crittall doors creating a fluid connection between the internal and external spaces.
The first floor was also extended to form the new large master suite, which included a contemporary bay window to the side with frameless glass, in the master ensuite. The second floor enlargement allowed for new, larger bedrooms and an office to be created.
Family friendly spaces and more formal sitting/living rooms sit side-by-side to create a stylish yet practical family home.
The brief for the interior design and look and feel was to maintain the traditional features of the period property, whilst creating a contemporary, luxurious home with some industrial touches.
